It’s spring, and the days are becoming warmer. Soon you’re going to want to cool down your home because of a hot day. So you go to the thermostat and turn down the temperature. You expect to feel a cool breeze from your system, but nothing happens! There is no cool air from the vent (or very little). And you begin to hear an unusual noise. What do you do?
When you turn on your air conditioner for the first time, keep an eye (and ear) out for the following warning signs that your system could be on the path to failure and will need to be replaced:
1. The air your system is pushing out is not as cool as it once was
This could be due to many things, but the primary reason could be that the coolant in your air conditioner is running low. This could be due to leaks in the lines that circulate the coolant in your system, including the drainage lines. If your air conditioner is over 10 years old, it may be time to replace it.
2. Your air conditioner is continuously cycling
If you notice that your air conditioner continues to cycle on and off – this is not normal. While it is normal for your air conditioner to go through relatively routine cooling cycles, it shouldn’t cycle on and off constantly. If you notice frequent cycles, give us a call. It may signal that you need a new air conditioner.
3. The air conditioning system is making a strange sound or is rattling
Your air conditioner has several moving parts and generally should run smoothly and worry-free. But suppose it is making a strange sound, including grinding, whistling or rattling. In that case, we recommend you turn off the unit immediately and call us.
