Looking for rebates available to all Novia Scotia homeowners regardless of income level or heating type? Nova Scotia households can access up to $5,000 through the Efficiency Nova Scotia Home Energy Assessment rebate to cover recommended energy-efficiency upgrades and eligible products. Plus, you may qualify for an additional $5,000 through the Moderate Income Rebate if your home is primarily heated with non-electrical sources.

About the Home Energy Assessment

The Home Energy Assessment Nova Scotia rebate is a provincial initiative administered by Efficiency Nova Scotia (ENS or Efficiency NS) that evaluates your home’s energy performance and unlocks rebates for eligible upgrades. An energy advisor conducts a full assessment of your home to identify areas which could require improvements such as insulation, air sealing, or home heating system upgrades

After completing your initial assessment, you’ll receive a detailed report outlining recommended upgrades and available rebates.

General eligibility requirements for Home Energy Assessment

  • Home must be located in Nova Scotia and be at least six (6) months old
  • Home must have not yet started any renovations

What does the Home Energy Assessment cover?

  • Central ducted air-source heat pumps
  • Ductless mini-split heat pumps
  • Attic, wall, and basement insulation
  • Air sealing and draft-proofing
  • Water heating and other efficiency upgrades

Home Energy Assessments FAQs:

How can I reschedule my Home Energy Assessment or book a final assessment?

Get in touch with the service provider/organization you selected and booked to do your Home Energy Assessment.

Can homeowners enroll in the Home Energy Assessment program again?

Yes. Homeowners may re-enroll in the program six months after their most recent final assessment. However, the $199 assessment fee will apply for future enrollments. There is no restriction on how many times a homeowner can participate.

My home upgrades will take more than 12 months to complete. How can I request an extension?

If you are approaching the 12-month deadline from your initial assessment and require additional time, reach out to the Service Organization that conducted your first Home Energy Assessment to request an extension.

Am I required to complete every upgrade listed in my report?

No. Completing the recommended upgrades is entirely optional. You may choose which improvements, if any, you would like to move forward with, and there are no penalties for opting out.

I’ve completed my upgrades. What should I do to receive my rebates?

Once all upgrades are finished, you must schedule a final assessment with the same provider who performed your initial audit. This appointment must take place within 12 months of the initial assessment. Make sure all intended upgrades are completed beforehand, as only one final assessment is permitted. Eligible rebates will be processed based on the completed upgrades and are typically issued within approximately 90 days after the final assessment.
