Looking to lower your heating bills while reducing your carbon footprint? Nova Scotians now have a limited-time opportunity to receive up to $2,000 in rebates through the Home Heating System Rebates program.

This incentive is designed for homeowners who aren't wanting to go through an energy audit. Unlike the Oil to Heat Pump Affordability program, you don't need to be heating your home with oil in order to qualify for the Home Heating System Rebates program. With this program, you can get up to $2,000 to upgrade your heating system to heat pumps, electric thermal storage, or woodstoves.

This program can significantly reduce your upfront costs while helping you transition to a cleaner, more cost-effective home heating system.

Home Heating System Rebates FAQs

1. Why is the Home Heating System Rebates program ending?

The program is ending to allow Efficiency Nova Scotia to focus on larger rebates available through other programs like the Home Energy Assessment, Moderate Income Rebates, and Oil to Heat Pump Affordability program. These offer more support for energy upgrades.

2. What’s the last day to apply for the Home Heating System Rebates program?

The final day to apply is December 31, 2025. Your full application, including all required documents, must be submitted by then. You also need to apply within 180 days of your system being installed.

3. I already installed a heat pump - can I still get a rebate?

Yes, so long as you submit your application within 180 days of your heat pump being installed. You can apply through the Heating System Rebates Program until December 31, 2025. After that, rebates will only be available through programs that include a home energy assessment, such as the Home Energy Assessment and Moderate Income programs. If you heat with oil and meet a few other requirements, you may qualify for the Oil to Heat Pump Affordability Program, which doesn't require an energy assessment.

4. What if I miss the deadline for the Home Heating System Rebates?

If you don’t submit a complete application by December 31, 2025, you won’t be able to get a rebate. Be sure to plan ahead and apply on time - no exceptions will be made. If you miss the deadline, be sure to check whether you qualify for any other heat pump incentive programs in Nova Scotia.

5. Will contractors be updated about these changes?

Yes. Preferred contractors will be kept informed through emails, webinars, and newsletters so they can help guide customers.

6. Will the Home Heating System Rebates program come back in the future?

It’s hard to say. While there are no plans right now, Efficiency Nova Scotia is always looking for new ways to support homeowners with energy-saving programs. Be sure to check the Efficiency Nova Scotia website for program updates.
